This is the first video in a series of SUP Foiling instructional videos: How to paddle straight on a short board. To make a short board go straight, the stoke has to be modified. I find short strokes pulling towards the feet and ending by the toes seem to work best. Angling the blade towards the body, starting the stroke far in front and taking short strokes pulling the board straight forward are described in the video. SUP Foilen: is het iets voor onze Noordzee? Ik probeer het je te vertellen en zal na iedere SUP Foil sessie een verslag uitbrengen en wat pic's online zetten... hier gaan we met part 1

Na een lange wachtperiode is m'n F-One SUP foil eindelijk binnen gekomen, vorige zaterdag dan eens snel alles in elkaar gestoken en een eerste sessie op het water. Was benieuwd hoe het paddle en take off gevoel zou zijn op de kleine 7'7 Papeeno carbon, alhoewel er niet echt een lijntje binnen kwam en je  niet echt kon spreken van cleane condities met een lichte onshore wind van +- 8 kn , was het pedel gevoel zeer goed en is het board door de 65 cm lange mast er onder zeer stabiel. De 1200 cm2 front wing zal hier ook wel veel toe doen.

Gelukkig is het foilen niet nieuw voor mij en kon ik al na het nemen van de 3e golf al wat lift krijgen, alhoewel er niet veel golven te bespeuren waren kon ik toch af en toe er eentje uitpikken die me juist genoeg snelheid gaf om het boardje in de lucht te krijgen. Ben benieuwd hoe het zal gaan bij iets beter condities....

.... SUP foil, is het de nieuwe trend? Is het een aanvulling op onze gewone SUP? Kan het bij ons?

Op het internet worden dagelijks filmpjes gepoist van SUPFoiling, geen SUP website of SUP Facebook pagina die er niet over spreekt. De Britse SUP website - SUP BOARDER - heeft het fenomeen eens grondig onder de loep genomen, link naar het artikel kan je onderaan vinden.

Zelf geloof ik sterk in het SUPFoilen als aanvulling van het WAVE SUPpen in onze Noordzee omstandigheden. Hoe vaak is het niet dat de omstandigheden niet clean zijn, rommelig en er heel weinig lijn in zit? Meer dan wanneer het clean is en de lijntjes binnenlopen.

Wel nu juist deze rommelige Noordzee condities zijn de condities om een SUPFOIL in te zetten, zelf heb ik voor dit seizoen een F-One Papeeno 7'11 convertable wave sup, een boardje waaronder je een foil kan vijzen. Een ideale combinatie voor onze omstandigheden is een foil met een 1200cm2 vleugel in combinatie met een mast van 55cm tot 65cm.

Alhoewel er momenteel al enkele fabrikanten zijn die een SUP Foil aanbieden is er momenteel geen enkele behalve F-One die een modulaire setup aanbieden, je kan vrij de vleugel kiezen ( 1200 / 1000 / 900 ) en de mast lengte  ( ook de uitvoering Carbon of Aluminium ). Zelf heb ik gekozen voor de Alu Hybride 1200/65 setup.

Alhoewel ik al Kitefoil ervaring heb en het dus niet allemaal nieuw is voor mij zal er toch een leercurve zijn die doorlopen moet worden. Het is nu nog wachten op de juiste omstandigheden om alles te testen.
